Governor Business Interests 2019-20.pdf
My name is Susan Samra, and I have been a Governor at Stretton for 10 years. I was the Deputy Head for 8 years and am currently the Head of School.
I came to Coventry from London 10 years ago and am so passionate about working in a community like Willenhall where we can make a difference to children’s lives, help them to achieve their full potential and have high aspirations. I have loved being a part of the journey from ‘Special Measures to Outstanding’ and am so proud to continue to drive the school forward on this journey.
My name is Cathryn Jones. I joined Stretton CE Academy in September 2017 as the Deputy Headteacher and have recently been elected to the Governing Body at school. I have taught in schools in both Coventry and Birmingham, and particularly like the ethos that a C of E school creates. Outside school, I am a sensei with GKR karate but also enjoy participating in and watching a range of sports. I am mum to two children and as a family we love to be outside, playing and exploring. I love music, and try hard to find time to play my oboe, saxophone or piano to unwind at the end of the day. As a musician, I am an active member of my church, helping to lead the music worship as well as enjoying the different family days that are organised.
I am really enjoying being part of a team that continues to drive Stretton to outstanding and beyond.
My name is Ed Trelinski. I am a teacher of Politics at Rugby School and have been a Housemaster of Cotton, a boys’ boarding house, since 2014. I am passionate about all sport, especially rugby and cricket. In my spare time, I can also be regularly found scaling mountains in the Lake District, Snowdonia and the Scottish Highlands. I have been a governor at Stretton since July 2013.
My name is Rev Pam Howell and I am a Foundation Governor at the school, being the Vicar of St John the Divine Church of England Church in Willenhall Coventry. I was previously a solicitor and was ordained in 2012. I worked with our previous Vicar here for a year from 2011 to 2012 on a placement and loved being here. I was delighted to be offered this role and love being a governor of Stretton Academy. I really enjoy coming into school regularly for collective worship, and helping with the 'Divine (lunchtime) Club'. We are very glad to welcome the school every other week for our mid-week Holy Communion service.
I am married to my husband who is an engineer, and have two grown up children, my son, who is on a late apprenticeship in London working in construction and plumbing, and my daughter, who is now in her third year at university. They both attended a Church of England Primary School in their younger formative years, which stood them in good stead for the future.
I hope that I bring some of the skills I have learnt in my previous working life and my current role to the board, to help us keep on promoting all the good things going on here and ensure the school continues to deliver excellent teaching for pupils and their families.
My name is Victoria Donajgrodzki and I am a Staff Governor. I am a teacher, teaching Year 4 at Stretton for the second year, having joined the school in September 2018. Teaching is my second career and I love the rewards and challenges of working in education, as well as the laughter, support and achievements which come with working at Stretton. I lead the Art and Design, and the Design Technology curriculum, at Stretton. Outside school, I sing in a choir and enjoy looking at and dabbling in art and crafts. I am an active member of my church, whether leading worship, baking cakes or helping with Messy Church. My husband and I try to maintain quite a large allotment as well as our garden, and we both enjoy growing up - or trying to stay young - with our two daughters, who are 16 and 20.
My name is Laura Wood and I have recently become a parent governor at Stretton. I have two girls who attend the school in Years 3 and 4. I also work for Eureka Childcare in the after school club at Stretton.
My name is Paula Whitfield. I am a chartered accountant who works for a large pension scheme associated with a telecoms business based in Warwick. I became a governor at Stretton in March 2017. I have 2 teenage boys at secondary school in Rugby where I have been a parent governor since March 2016. I am also Chair of Governors at the infants school that they attended, having been a governor for over 10 years and Chair since November 2015. In my spare time (not that I have much!) I enjoy watching sport (tennis, cricket, rugby, football, hockey), keeping fit and travelling the world.
I have started my career in 2003 just after finishing my MBA from Coventry University.
I have 2 sides of my life;
Firstly, I am a proud father of 2 (one boy and one girl). We have a happy family of 4 and we all live in Coventry.
Secondly, I have worked in management for over 15 years and still feel its a Day1 as the way the world is changing, one has to keep learning new things.
Lastly, I am very passionate about what I do. I did my first Half marathon this year in snow and raised £250 for Water Aid. Raised money for Movember and have signed for next Marathon for march 2019.
I am obliged to be a part of governing body and will be ready to go an extra mile to supprt the school.
My name is Gowri Shankar Sukumar. I recently joined as the Parent Governor for Stretton CofE from the beginning of 2019. My background is in Engineering, with A Bachelor's in Mechanical and a Masters in Automotive from Loughborough University. I've been in the field of Engineering, R&D and Data Analytics for now almost close to 15 years and here's that cliche - but true thing - every day comes with new opportunities to learn. Having settled in Coventry now, with my lil princess in Stretton, the sense of giving back to the community kicks in. And what else has got the power to change a generation than education and that's the push for me to apply for being a Parent Governor. About my hobbies, Badminton used to be my favorite spare time sport but with knee injuries, I've settled down to DIY and travelling 'Road Less Traveled' places with my family. I also support kids with free tutoring regarding their queries on STEM subjects for their GCSE's and A-Levels, they definitely keep me on my toes.

Ofsted Comment : The very strong leadership of the headteacher has successfully transformed this academy. She has driven improvements in the quality of teaching and raised pupils’ achievement. Other leaders and governors contribute strongly to achieving these priorities. The governing body is highly effective in supporting and challenging leaders. Governors make an outstanding contribution to the success of the academy.
