Aims & Ethos

Stretton Personal Qualities and Christian Values

We have identified six personal qualities and six Christian values that are at the core of everything we do. We encourage our children to recognise and understand these principles and celebrate their development. They underpin our teaching and learning, and help us to create an environment that provides opportunities for children (and adults) to embrace challenge, support each other and to develop as confident, happy and socially responsible citizens.

OUR PERSONAL QUALITIES

Development of our personal qualities helps us to accept challenge and pursue excellence; it encourages us to embrace new opportunities and do our best to keep going when things are not easy. They also help us to understand and support others to achieve their goals so that we can all enjoy learning and achieve success.

OUR CHRISTIAN VALUES

The act of worship and the opportunity for stillness and engagement in personal and shared reflection is an important aspect of the life of our school. We encourage a sense of 'awe and wonder' in various ways, including story, music, dance, imagery and spoken language, seeking to promote understanding and respect for all members of our diverse community. By developing understanding of these Christian values and creating opportunities to demonstrate them, we aim for all children to recognise their responsibilities within and beyond school so that together we can work to create a just, joyful and caring world for all.

Our Divine club helped to choose some Bible readings that reflect our values.

FAIRNESS

'Do what is right

and just and fair.'

for the prize of the call of God.'

BRITISH VALUES

British values are part of pupils' spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.

Fundamental British Values are considered to be:

  • democracy
  • the rule of law
  • Individual liberty
  • mutual respect for, and tolerance of, those with different faiths and beliefs and for those without faith

As such we will:

  • encourage pupils to respect fundamental British values
  • not promote extremist views, or partisan political views
  • offer pupils a balanced presentation of views when political issues are brought to their attention

We will do this by:

  • Enabling students to develop their self-knowledge, self-esteem and self-confidence
  • Enabling students to distinguish right from wrong and to respect the civil and criminal law of England
  • Encouraging students to accept responsibility for their behaviour, show initiative, and to understand how they can contribute positively to the lives of those living and working in the locality of the school and to society more widely
  • Enabling students to acquire a broad general knowledge of, and respect for, public institutions and services in England
  • Furthering tolerance and harmony between different cultural traditions by enabling students to acquire an appreciation for and respect for their own and other cultures
  • Encouraging respect for other people
  • Encouraging respect for democracy and support for participation in the democratic processes, including respect for the basis on which the law is made and applied in England.
  • Encouraging respect for other people, paying particular regard to the protected characteristics set out in the Equality Act 2010.
