Enrichment in Maths

We aim to provide a range of additional opportunities for children to develop and enjoy mathematics.

  • Times Table Rockstars
  • NumBots

  • Maths Ambassador roles

Children in Years 5 and 6 can apply to become Maths ambassadors. They lead on Maths days and in encouraging Times Tables Rockstars (e.g. by supporting maths activities in lunchtime clubs).

  • Whole school competitions (e.g. via 'Battle of the Bands' competitions on Times Table Rockstars)
  • Weekly PQ tickets for top 3 players on Times Table Rockstars from each class
  •  NSPCC Number Day

On Number Day, we have fun dressing up as numbers and challenging each other with number-related activities, including a 'battle of the bands' between staff and children on times tables rockstars.

  • World Maths Day
  • Opportunities to enter Mathematical Association First Maths and Primary Maths challenges

We join in with the Mathematical Association Maths challenges aimed at KS2. These include the First Maths Challenge aimed at children in Years 3 and 4, and the Primary Maths Challenge, aimed at children in Years 5 and 6.

To find out more about the First Mathematics Challenge follow the link below to see the kinds of question involved in the challenge and try out some past papers.

The challenge paper has 20 multiple choice questions. They start with easier questions and gradually get harder throughout the Challenge. Children have 45 minutes to complete all questions. They can use as much scrap paper as they wish but no calculators, rulers or other aids may be used. This is a great challenge to encourage children to develop flexible mathematical thinking and approach problems logically.

The Primary Maths Challenge paper has 25 questions. 20 of these are multiple choice. The questions start with easier ones and gradually become more challenging. The final five require an answer where no choices are given and really get you thinking! There are 45 minutes to answer the questions. Certificates are presented to children for taking on the challenge and for achieving high scores. There is a 'Bonus round' where children achieving the highest scores nationally have the opportunity to participate in further, more challenging questions.

If you would like to have a go, follow the link below to try out some questions from past papers.
