Monitoring Maths provision

Monitoring at Stretton is an approach which is carried out with staff and using a collaborative and developmental approach.

Learning walks involve a learning conversation where staff have an opportunity to share their outcomes, scaffolding and assessment procedures. Staff have the opportunity to work in a 360 degree approach so that leaders, teachers and children work collaboratively to carry out pupil voice and book scrutiny.

‘Book Looks’ are carried out with children so that the evidence is triangulated and captures the process and the outcomes more accurately.

How we monitor the provision in Maths

  • Learning walks/pop ins - The teaching and learning is captured through the exploration, guided, intelligent practice, star challenge and Greater Depth Challenge. There is also a focus on the modelling of Concrete, Pictorial and Abstract concepts throughout the lesson.
  • Pupil voice - Children can discuss how they learn, show examples of their methods for calculations through jottings, and explain the purpose of the Steps to Success in supporting their learning.
  • Book Scrutiny – Progress is captured through increased confidence in use of calculations, progress through efficient methods being evident in jottings.
  • Progress towards Attainment discussions - these focus on children who are not making expected progress and books are scrutinised to highlight gaps in provision and learning.
